A Beach Vacation??!

Saturday we left for the beach...three hours later than intended. Our trip there went well, couldn't really complain. We got to the house and Aidan took to it just fine. Logan enjoyed laying on a blanket. Aidan claimed all five beds in the house. Sunday morning Carrie's parents were coming down to spend the night and two days at the beach. Grandpa and Grandma arrived 9am Sunday morning with donuts! Aidan was thrilled! We spent the gray day on the deck enjoying the ocean and trying to coax Aidan to the sand. Each time he stood on it he asked to go back on the deck. We finally took a nice long walk. There were lots of people out. Aidan and Logan enjoyed the ride in the jog stroller. Then they both wanted carried! We got Aidan to let the water hit his feet and showed him that he could write with his fingers in the sand. He was not a fan of the sandy hands though! Monday the weather was even worse! Logan was 5 months old too! We took the entire two pictures for the trip on this day! Logan stayed on the deck out of the drizzle while we took Aidan to the beach to play with the numerous sand toys he has! We had to come in because it started to rain pretty hard. Grandpa and Grandma decided that they would take us out to lunch in Morehead! We went to the Ruddy Duck and had lunch on the water. It was very nice and sheltered from the rain. Aidan had a grand time. We headed back to the rental and Carrie's parents packed up their car to head back to Raleigh. Right before they left Carrie started to feel a pain on her left side and mentioned it. Her Mom asked her if she would be fine and of course Carrie said, "I'll be fine, head on home!" Ten minutes later she felt the need to lie down and let the pain pass. Twenty minutes later it was pretty intense. Twenty minutes after that it was darn right unbearable. Aidan kept joining her on the bed to see how she was doing. An hour after her parents left she was incapacitated with pain and sick from it! (No nausea just sick) She asked Andrew to call her parents, Andrew asked, 'And tell them what?", "Come back", Carrie said. Andrew was pretty uneasy at this point. Carrie's parents quickly turned around and Andrew began calling to see if they had an Urgent Care open on the island. They all were out of business or not answering. So he called Emerald Isle EMS and asked them. The closest Urgent Care was near Fayetteville (90 Miles away). Andrew said, "OK what do we do? Call 911 or go to the ER." Neither choice was ideal but we were out options. So, he got directions and we headed to Carteret Community Hospital in the pouring rain with our two kids and Carrie in pain. After a LONG ride to the ER, Carrie was bumped ahead of everyone else there. They took her vitals and brought her back out to the waiting room. Andrew went to set Aidan down and realized his diaper had leaked. Where's the diaper bag? At the rental house. Then Carrie's parents arrived. They were going to take the boys back to the house. Where are the keys to the rental house you may ask?? Locked in the rental house! Andrew made a call to the Reality and they were going to meet Carrie's parents there and waive the lock out fee. (Whew!) Carrie went through blood draws and Xrays. She was given IV meds and not given a confident diagnosis. They said it was food poisoning and tried to discharge her without the Doctor speaking to her. Andrew insisted the Doctor come in to the answer the questions that the nurse seemed incapable of. The Doctor avoided eye contact and beat around the bush. Carrie had a slight pain relief and asked ,"What about my xrays?" The Doctor said, "They were pretty clear." Carrie asked, 'What do you mean pretty clear?" The Doctor said, "Well, um..they were clear." And said I should be fine and if the pain comes back just come back to them! Carrie was discharged and hobbled to the car in the torrential downpour and said, "I want to go home, I DO NOT want to go back to there or any ER." We've heard you only go to an ER if you KNOW you are dying, other wise wait to see your doctor. We had no choice. We headed back to the house and Carrie's parents helped Andrew pack up the truck. Carrie's parents then at 10:30 at night drove back to Raleigh. We left the next day after the pharmacy opened. On the way home Carrie called her OB because she thought it might be related. After meeting with them, the said via Ultrasound they found a lot of fluid in her "cul-de-sac" and it might have been a cyst rupture. However, with no ultrasound done at the ER they wouldn't be able to confirm it. Carrie's abdomen was pretty sore from being sick and she still had twinges of pain but not anywhere was severe as the night before. So, we THOROUGHLY ENJOYED our "vacation."
